چکیده
Food-safety incidents are costly for everyone in the leafy greens industry. However, it is challenging to estimate size and distribution of these costs today's complex supply chains. Extensive use formal contracts markets such as obscures prices other terms trade from public view. Using proprietary data on sales a major processor operating retail food-service sectors, we able separately short-run damages associated with November 2018 romaine Escherichia coli advisory growershippers, processors, retailers, operators. Due fixed grower-processor contracts, growers were only minimally impacted by advisory. Processors, meanwhile, lost approximately $55.3 million price quantity impacts. Retailers incurred $14.1 losses after pulling product channels shelves. Foodservice operators less because lower offset destroying potentially contaminated products. Moving forward, best way mitigate during food-safety fast efficient traceability.

The corona virus has turned a health crisis into an economic crisis and its spread has led to strong negative reactions from stock markets in various countries and price fluctuations in many macroeconomic variables. On the other hand, the spread of the virus provides a basis for examining the effects of its prevalence on stock markets, economic variables and the power of influence and the speed...
متن کاملInternalization of sapovirus, a surrogate for norovirus, in romaine lettuce and the effect of lettuce latex on virus infectivity.
Noroviruses are the leading cause of food-borne outbreaks, including those that involve lettuce. The culturable porcine sapovirus (SaV) was used as a norovirus surrogate to study the persistence and the potential transfer of the virus from roots to leaves and from outer to inner leaves of lettuce plants. Treatment of lettuce with SaV was done through the roots of young plants, the soil, or the ...
متن کاملInternalization and dissemination of human norovirus and animal caliciviruses in hydroponically grown romaine lettuce.
Fresh produce is a major vehicle for the transmission of human norovirus (NoV) because it is easily contaminated during both pre- and postharvest stages. However, the ecology of human NoV in fresh produce is poorly understood. In this study, we determined whether human NoV and its surrogates can be internalized via roots and disseminated to edible portions of the plant. The roots of romaine let...
